Tiffany: Strelitzia Skylight (W x D x H: 91 x 1 x 25 cm)
Tiffany: Strelitzia Skylight, mounted above door
The first work using the tiffany technique we made was of a strelitzia (also known as a Bird of Paradise). The pattern was printed and then duplicated.
One version was cut with a tiffany pattern shear to serve as a template for each piece of glass. The other design was fixed on a wooden board.
After cutting and grinding the various pieces of glass, every single piece was wrapped in copper foil and then soldered together.
To strengthen the work it was slotted into a leaden u-profile to finish, and then put in a skylight.
Tiffany: Green Dragonfly (W x D x H: 41 x 1 x 42 cm)
The second work is a dragonfly, using the same technique as described above.
To strengthen this work a frame was made from stainless steel.
Tiffany: Zebra Lamp (W x H: 34 x 68 cm)
Initially the Zebra Lamp gave us a few headaches. First we started using aerated concrete to carve the mould out of. That was not a success, so then we tried Silke mat to make a mould, which didn't work either.
In the end we received a tip from our brother to use cardboard to match the exact curvatures and then cut the glass accordingly along the cardboard. And that worked beautifully.
We then applied black enamel to the glass and fired the kiln. Afterwards we cut the glass and wrapped copper foil around every piece and soldered it in place.
The difficult part was to finish the inside of the lamp, because the soldering iron could not be moved freely.
For the lower part of the lamp the Silke mat material did work. We applied eggshells to the glass and fused them together. The result was very nice, but it did require some grinding.
Tiffany: Seascape Lamp (W x H: 20 x 33 cm)
The starting point for making the Seascape Lamp was the steel form that we had welded. To produce the glass panels, we used a separate board with small slats that formed the outer edges. In this way, the transition between the panels was clearly visible. The rest of the working method is the same as described above.
Tiffany: Daisies (W x H: 20 x 100 cm)
The work with the daisies too is a Tiffany work. The pieces of glass were cut out, copper foiled and soldered together and finally placed in a metal holder.
Tiffany: Clock (∅ 56.5 cm)
Behind the numbers of the clock, the finest glass (there is no arguing about taste) is attached using the tiffany technique. An option is to attach an LED strip to the back ring so that light always shines through the glass.
Tiffany: Volkswagen T1 17 x 26 cm (W x H)
This design was made on the computer and then cut out by means of a plotter. Producing the main front part and the V-shape was quite a challenge, since they had to be made out of a single piece of glass. But with patience and a glass saw, we managed in the end. The entire van was attached to the bottom plate with a special glue.
Tiffany: Succulents 11 x 11 x 3.5 cm (W x D x H)
A real succulent plant was the inspiration for these Tiffany works. Six larger pieces were cut out and soldered in a circle. Six smaller pieces were then soldered at an angle, followed by the six smallest pieces, again at a slightly different angle. All the pieces were copper foiled.
Tiffany: Butterflies 25.5 x 39 cm (W x H)
This design was, for now, the last project cut out of paper. It was a challenge to cut out the small pieces between the butterflies. Finally all parts were copper foiled, soldered together, and placed in a metal holder.
